Supporting Centrica employees through their 2020 Sharesave maturity and relaunching a stronger 2025 Sharesave campaign

Centrica is an international energy and services company with over 20,000 staff in the UK and Republic of Ireland and includes household brands such as British Gas as a subsidiary.
With their 2020 Sharesave nearing maturity, Centrica wanted to support their employees to understand their choices and make informed decisions. Centrica also wanted to relaunch a stronger, more engaging Sharesave campaign for 2025. They therefore decided to partner with WEALTH at work to provide a financial education programmes to achieve this.
Delivering a comprehensive Sharesave maturity programme
WEALTH at work delivered a series of financial education sessions designed to help drive meaningful conversations with employees about their maturity choices. The sessions provided clear guidance and practical support so employees could confidently explore their choices and achieve the best possible outcome at maturity.
To drive early engagement, awareness emails and teaser videos were issued ahead of the sessions, while also promoting them through on-site media including posters and plasma screens through the head office. This proactive communication strategy proved highly effective, resulting in 75% attendance rate among Sharesave participants.
As part of the programme, employees were also given access to a dedicated app and microsite offering further support. These platforms hosted interactive calculators, step by step guides and practical tools to support informed decision making.
In addition, employees had the opportunity to access to a helpline for a 1-2-1 call to discuss their options. Engagement here was exceptionally strong, with 84% of session attendees requesting a 1-2-1 call, demonstrating the value employees placed on financial guidance.

Relaunching a stronger Sharesave for 2025
Centrica’s previous 2020 launch saw low engagement, with only around 20% of the workforce taking part.
As part of the 2025 relaunch, WEALTH at work delivered a series of financial education sessions which helped employees understand how the scheme works and boosted confidence in making informed decisions.
To support this campaign, WEALTH at work used the same proven communication framework that had driven strong engagement during the maturity programme. This included awareness-building emails and videos, as well as on-site advertising on digital screens and posters.
Overall, this programme achieved its objective of driving higher participation rates and resulted in a 42% take up rate – more than double the participation seen in the 2020 launch.
